To bring OCOP products of the province into the supermarket system

The One Commune One Product (OCOP) program is a push to bring typical products and advantages of many localities to be focused on production and processing, meeting the needs and tastes of consumers inside and outside the province. These products contribute to creating brands for the land and production facilities, increasing the revenue of the subjects.

Currently, the southeastern region of the province has 189 valid OCOP products, including 7 4-star OCOP products and 182 3-star OCOP products. These products and characteristics are produced and processed by the subjects from agricultural, forestry and seafood raw materials, which are local strengths such as fish sauce, dragon fruit, cashew nuts, longan, bird's nest, etc. Many products are brought to the Co.opmart supermarket system (Phan Thiet, Phan Ri Cua, La Gi), the province's OCOP product showrooms, and convenience stores to help expand distribution channels, widely promote to consumers, and increase stable consumption capacity.

As a direct distributor of goods to consumers, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Loan, Director of Co.opmart Phan Thiet Supermarket, said: “To contribute to promoting and introducing Vietnamese products to consumers, the Co.opmart supermarket system has made efforts to respond to the campaign of Vietnamese people giving priority to using Vietnamese products. Currently, Co.opmart sells over 25,000 products, of which about 95% are high-quality Vietnamese products, nearly 30 OCOP products of the province are present at 3 Co.opmart supermarkets. Revenue from thousands of products, the Co.opmart Phan Thiet system annually reaches over 300 billion VND. In fact, Vietnamese products are increasingly gaining the trust of customers in the province thanks to their clear origin, reputable brands, and quality that is not inferior to foreign products. Branded products, guaranteed quality, good for health, OCOP products are always the priority choice of consumers. However, OCOP products entering the supermarket system Co.opmart still has not many compared to 189 OCOP products that are still valid for recognition.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Loan, Director of Co.opmart Phan Thiet Supermarket, shares OCOP products in the supermarket.

Although large supermarkets in the southeastern region of the province have dedicated counters for OCOP, the quantity and variety of products are still limited. The reason is that the scale of production is small, the processed products are few, and do not meet the strict standards of supermarkets. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Loan shared: “The condition for OCOP products to stand in the Co.opmart supermarket system for a long time is to ensure sufficient output to meet the needs of the supermarket when necessary. There are cases where we initially imported OCOP products, but later requested to increase the quantity to serve customers, the subject could not meet. The supermarket that signs a contract to purchase goods imported into the system must ensure the standards of goods, quantity, and meet the needs of customers who require increasingly high quality and beautiful designs”.

Meanwhile, to support OCOP enterprises and cooperatives to overcome difficulties, the Department of Industry and Trade has organized trade promotion activities, connected with large distribution systems, and supported OCOP product display booths. In addition, OCOP product display points also play an important role in connecting products with consumers. The display point of the Provincial Cooperative Union in Phan Thiet attracted many groups of visitors and shoppers, contributing to promoting OCOP products to consumers. For OCOP products to truly conquer the market, efforts are needed from many sides. Enterprises and cooperatives need to focus on improving product quality, investing in deep processing, ensuring stable output, and improving packaging designs. Building stories about the origin and associating products with local culture is also an effective way.
