Facing the Cambodian women's team, which was weaker in every aspect, coach Mai Duc Chung did not field his strongest lineup, leaving captain Huynh Nhu, midfielder Thanh Nha and Tuyet Dung on the bench.
But when taking the field with a not-so-strong lineup, the Vietnamese girls easily overwhelmed their opponents.
In less than 20 minutes of the match, the Vietnamese women's team scored 4 goals, thanks to Duong Thi Van, Van Su, Hai Yen and Nguyen Thi Van.
Leading the opponent with a safe gap, the Vietnamese women's team played leisurely, creating a few opportunities but could not take advantage, thereby ending the first half with a score of 4-0.
In the beginning of the second half, the attack of the Vietnamese women's team was strengthened with the presence of Huynh Nhu and Thanh Nha.
In the 51st minute, Hai Linh kicked the ball long to the left wing, Van Su handled it and eliminated the Cambodian defender before crossing for Truc Huong to finish and score, raising the score to 5-0.
Nine minutes later, Huynh Nhu had a situation where she dribbled the ball from home before making an impressive cross from the left wing for Thai Thi Thao to head in, raising the score to 6-0.
Taking a deep lead, the Vietnamese women's team did not try too hard to attack but instead tried many different coordination options.
The match ended with a 6-0 victory for the Vietnamese girls. This result helped the Vietnamese women's team and Thailand - the team that defeated Indonesia 7-0 in the previous match - share the top 2 positions in Group A after the first round of matches.
In the second match of Group A taking place on June 9, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team will meet Indonesia, the team that lost 0-7 to Thailand in the opening match.
