The first round of the competency assessment exam, Hanoi National University (HSA - 501) took place at 8 testing locations including: Institute of Digital Training and Testing, University of Technology, University of Natural Sciences (both under Hanoi National University); Thang Long University, Thai Binh University and Nam Dinh University of Technical Education. The total number of candidates according to the registration list was 11,027, the number of candidates who completed the application form according to the regulations to take the exam was 10,958; reaching 99.4% of the candidate rate; 1 candidate was disciplined and suspended from the exam.

Some exam sessions at Hoa Lac exam sites, University of Technology, University of Natural Sciences, Nam Dinh University of Technical Education, Thai Binh University achieved 100% of candidates attending the exam. From 2024 onwards, the exam organizing unit will apply image recognition technology for candidates coming to the exam. Candidates must present their Citizen Identification Card matching the information in their exam profile and be identified by image to be eligible to take the exam.
The Hanoi National University's Competency Assessment Test will be applied from 2025 for candidates following the 2018 general education program. Candidates must complete two compulsory sections: Mathematics and Data Processing (50 questions, 75 minutes), Literature - Language (50 questions, 60 minutes) and an optional section of Science or English (50 questions, 60 minutes). For the Science section, candidates must choose 3 out of 5 topics in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History and Geography. Initial findings show that students in the city choose the third section, English, more than the Science section. Meanwhile, candidates in rural areas choose the Science section more.
Valedictorian scored 126/150 points
Preliminary statistics show that the first batch of valedictorians scored 126/150, and the second batch of valedictorians scored 125/150. Initial preliminary assessments show that the average score of the 2025 Competency Assessment Test will be slightly higher than previous years because candidates can choose the third part of the test to promote their personal abilities and strengths. Candidates should also refer to the admission plan information of the universities requiring the corresponding admission combination.
The Hanoi National University's Competency Assessment Test is designed based on modern measurement testing science. The test structure and test question content are distributed from grade 10 to grade 12 in the proportions of 10-15%, 30-40%, 50-60% respectively. Short-term review is not very effective for candidates. The test organizer also recommends that candidates should have a scientific and systematic study and review plan instead of getting bogged down in promotional test preparation groups.
In the past two days, some exam preparation groups impersonating candidates (using fake accounts) commented on the first round of the Competency Assessment exam to promote and attract candidates to prepare for the exam. Immediately after the first round of the exam ended at 11:00 a.m. on March 15, some fake accounts posted scores of 126/150 and 135/150 while no candidate achieved these scores on the first day of the exam. Therefore, candidates need to pay attention and develop a suitable personal review plan for the next round of the Competency Assessment exams.
The next 502nd exam will take place on March 29-30 in Hanoi, Hai Duong, Thai Nguyen, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, with nearly 20,000 candidates registering to take the exam.
