Possessing strengths from the system of historical, cultural, urban relics, and sea and island tourism resources, in recent times, the Southeast localities have formed and exploited many unique tourism products such as conference and seminar tourism, urban tourism associated with cultural industry and night-time economy , sea and island resort tourism, tourism associated with cuisine, etc.

Experts say that as one of the key tourist regions of the country, the Southeast has a lot of potential to further develop various types and products from forest, sea - island ecotourism to community tourism, culture, cuisine , events... The Southeast region has a long coastline, many beautiful beaches in the areas of Vung Tau, Ba Ria, Long Hai, Con Dao. The region also has many ecotourism resources associated with national parks, biosphere reserves, and conservation areas. In particular, in Dong Nai province there are Dong Nai Biosphere Reserve, Cat Tien National Park, Bu Gia Map National Park. In Ho Chi Minh City there are Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve, Con Dao National Park. In addition, the Southeast also has tourism resources associated with river and lake ecosystems. At the same time, the life and culture of the ethnic communities living in the area are the foundation for forming many cultural tourism products and source tourism.

According to information from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, after the merger, the city will converge nearly 700 diverse tourism resources, expected to bring visitors many experiences with new and more innovative connection axes.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thao, Head of the Department of Tourism Resource Development Planning (Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism): The unit is working with a number of local sectors to review, from which to orient exploitation, develop in more depth and uniqueness, enhance many tourism products associated with repositioning the core values of the City's tourism.

The city has identified developing typical tourism product groups, including: Tourism associated with attractive festivals and events such as river festivals, ao dai festivals, music festivals, etc.; waterway tourism associated with sea and island tourism resources, river systems, focusing on developing experiential tourism products, sports tourism connecting routes in the Southeast and the Mekong Delta; tourism associated with typical cultural values such as relics, folk and contemporary art; night tourism; agricultural and ecological tourism; community tourism.

Also in the Southeast, Dong Nai province also possesses diverse resources for ecotourism, cultural tourism, craft villages... Ms. Le Thi Ngoc Loan, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the province said: After the arrangement of administrative boundaries, Dong Nai has an ecosystem of diverse tourism products, favorable for chain development, from forests, mountains to rivers and lakes. The relics and cultural life converge, bringing tourists a rich travel experience. Destinations such as Dong Nai World Biosphere Reserve, Cat Tien National Park, Bu Gia Map National Park, Tri An Lake, Mo Stream, Mo Waterfall, traditional craft villages, organic agriculture models, high technology, community tourism... will continue to attract tourists.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee: The city is focusing on forming strategic focal points with many key projects and works. Notably, the formation of a world-class coastal tourism area (Ho Tram - Binh Chau - Long Hai - Vung Tau), developing diverse and attractive forms of entertainment (such as golf, sea games, tourist ports, casinos, eco-resorts). The city forms a free trade zone associated with the Cai Mep - Can Gio transit port cluster; develops the Can Gio ecological - tourism - resort urban area associated with the Can Gio World Biosphere Reserve. Along with that, the city builds an international financial center and a multi-purpose high-tech center; develops a core urban area and forms the Binh Duong Industrial - Urban Center, creating many new highlights for a smart, green, creative super city, striving to be in the top 100 livable cities in the world.

The leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism said: In July, the Center for Trade and Investment Promotion in coordination with the City Department of Tourism organized a seminar with the participation of many businesses in the tourism and service sectors; thereby, grasping the reality, receiving proposals, and then advising the City leaders on strategic solutions to create a breakthrough in the development of tourism and service economy in the new period.

In the first 7 months of 2025, Ho Chi Minh City tourism continued to record many positive results by attracting over 25 million domestic and international visitors. Total tourism revenue reached over 140 billion VND, an increase of nearly 30% over the same period in 2024.

Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu said: The City's tourism industry conducts surveys and synthesizes tourism development resources, has fundamental and sustainable development orientations in a new development space with many new driving forces opened up. Regarding the development of tours and routes, the City Department of Tourism and other units promote connections, promotion, and bring tourists to experience in many areas in the City. In the immediate future, from now until the end of the year in Ho Chi Minh City, there will be a series of large-scale events such as: International Tourism Fair (expected to take place in early September); River Festival (November); City Tourism Week (December) with many highlight activities, spread across localities. The programs contribute to introducing and serving tourists with many new and more complete tourism products with an attractive connection orientation, quality and more diverse experiences for tourists.

For Dong Nai province, paying attention to infrastructure investment, developing eco-tourism and entertainment areas, promoting and introducing cultural tourism destinations associated with historical relics, craft villages and cuisine are some of the solutions identified by the province to create a new breakthrough for the tourism and service sector in the coming time. According to information from the People's Committee of Dong Nai province, in July - the first month after the administrative unit arrangement, the Provincial People's Council passed a Resolution on the policy of changing the purpose of forest land use to other purposes to implement a number of key projects and works, including the Chua Chan Mountain Eco-tourism, Resort and Entertainment Project in Xuan Loc commune, contributing to the formation and development of a large-scale eco-tourism, resort and entertainment area, promoting the development of tourism and service economy of the locality and the Southeast region. Along with that, in the coming time, Long Thanh International Airport in the province will be put into operation, expected to create many new development steps for Dong Nai in the new era.
