The UK government has issued a series of new recommendations for destinations, including popular tourist destinations such as Cyprus, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Which areas are affected by the conflict?
Iran, Iraq, Jordan and Syria closed their airspace following the attacks, but Lebanon, after initially announcing a closure, has announced it will reopen its airspace until further notice. Air traffic is now being rerouted south through Egypt and Saudi Arabia, or north through Türkiye and Azerbaijan.
Which flights are cancelled?
The airstrikes have abruptly closed airspace in the Middle East, disrupting thousands of flights. According to Euronews , the following airlines have suspended, canceled, or changed their flight schedules for at least the next few days: Emirates, Flydubai, Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways, Lufthansa, Swiss, Air France, KLM, Wizz Air, Ryanair, Delta Air, El Al, Israir.
If you plan to fly with one of these airlines, check your flight status directly with the airline.
What official recommendations have been made?
As of June 15, the UK Foreign Office officially advises against all travel to Israel, with the travel advisory page updated to read: "We recognise that the situation is rapidly evolving and poses significant risks. The situation could deteriorate rapidly and without warning. The current situation has disrupted flights out of the country and may impact road links."
For travel to Egypt, the UK travel advice page was updated on 14 June, advising against travel to the North Sinai region.
What if I booked a package tour to Egypt?
Package tours are still running as normal at the moment, but if you want to change your itinerary, it is best to contact your tour operator. Cancellations on your own may not be refunded or covered by insurance, as the government has not issued a travel advisory to avoid all of Egypt, only certain areas that have been affected.
