Pig price today 11/24

*Pig price in the Northern region

The price of live pigs in the Northern region continued to decrease rapidly last week. Currently, live pigs in this region are being purchased at around 61,000 - 63,000 VND/kg.

Of which, only the provinces: Thai Nguyen, Hung Yen, Hai Duong and Hanoi still maintain transactions at 63,000 VND/kg, the highest in the region.

* Pig price in the Central Highlands region

The Central Highlands provinces recorded a decrease of 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg last week in Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Thua Thien Hue provinces; an increase of 1,000 VND/kg in Binh Thuan; only Lam Dong province saw a slight decrease in the middle of the week but quickly returned to an upward trend in the weekend session.

Currently, Lam Dong is the only province in the region where the price of live pigs is 62,000 VND/kg. The remaining localities are selling at prices ranging from 60,000 - 61,000 VND/kg.

*Pig price in the Southern region

The southern live pig market adjusted up 1-3 times in price in some provinces and cities, ranging from 61,000 - 63,000 VND/kg.

Specifically, Long An, Ca Mau, An Giang, Kien Giang provinces and Can Tho city are selling live pigs at 63,000 VND/kg. In contrast, the lowest price in the region is 61,000 VND/kg, being purchased by traders in the provinces of Binh Phuoc, Tien Giang, Bac Lieu, Tra Vinh and Ho Chi Minh City.

According to a report from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Vietnam's pork output is forecast to increase by 3% to 3.8 million tons in 2024 , thanks to effective control of African swine fever and policies to expand the pig herd.

In addition, domestic pig prices may continue to increase at the end of the year due to high demand during the Lunar New Year holiday, along with the impact of storm No. 3 disrupting supply. Experts recommend that farmers closely monitor the market and maintain stable pig herds to optimize profits.
