“More than 60 warships and support vessels, about 35 naval aircraft and over 11,000 servicemen are taking part in the Pacific Fleet drills,” the Russian Defense Ministry said on the Telegram messaging app, according to Reuters. The new drills are scheduled to last until June 20.

Previously on April 19, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that eight Russian Tu-22M3 long-range missile-carrying bombers had conducted combat training flights in the two aforementioned sea areas during a large-scale exercise of the Pacific Fleet, according to TASS News Agency.

Russia has been strengthening its defenses in its vast far eastern regions bordering the Asia-Pacific.

On May 24, TASS quoted a source close to the Russian Defense Ministry as saying that Russia's newest nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, the Generalissimo Suvorov, would move to a permanent base of the Russian Pacific Fleet in August.

The information was revealed after Russian media reported that the Generalissimo Suvorov submarine would contribute to strengthening the nuclear-powered submarine force of the Russian Pacific Fleet at the Rybachiy submarine base on the Kamchatka peninsula.

It is expected that this year, Russia will also complete the construction of coastal infrastructure in the Pacific Ocean to serve as a base for nuclear submarines carrying the "unstoppable" Poseidon super torpedo, according to TASS.
