On the afternoon of August 8, Ho Ngoc Ha and Huong Giang appeared with contestants of The Next Gentleman and Miss International Queen at the Rainbow Summer Fest announcement event in Ho Chi Minh City.
Rainbow Summer Fest is a summer music festival featuring singers Ho Ngoc Ha, Huong Giang, Hoang Ton, “brother” Wean, Saabirose, drag queens and DJs. The show will take place on an outdoor stage on August 24 in Phan Thiet City, Binh Thuan, with an expected audience of 10,000. All attendees will have free accommodation.
Through drag queen performances, producer Huong Giang wants to create opportunities for artists from the LGBTQ+ community to perform and shine in Vietnam. Faced with concerns that the performances would not be in accordance with traditional customs, she said that openness towards the LGBTQ+ community, especially drag queens, has increased, as some recent events have included their performances. The organizers still adhere to basic cultural values and traditional customs. Artists of any gender can bring beautiful images, demonstrating the talent of the Vietnamese people.
Huong Giang and Ho Ngoc Ha have personally bought tickets to see drag queens perform because of their talent and passion for art. According to Huong Giang, the bigger the stage, the more suitable it is for drag queens to “shine” and international tourists also love these performances. As long as they adhere to cultural values, this is an art form that deserves respect.
Rainbow Summer Fest also has other performances suitable for different ages and genders.
Ho Ngoc Ha humorously said that the artists will not need makeup because there will be continuous water splashing effects on stage. The singer wants to renew herself, avoiding duplication with previous stages. Although performing at many different events in the near future, she affirmed that she will invest in every performance to be worthy of the love of the audience.
