Crawford made history in 1963 when, at the age of 20, she was crowned Miss World and became the first Miss Central America.

Standing just 5 feet 11 inches (1.59 m) tall, Crawford defied the height standards of beauty pageants at the time. During the competition held in London, she wore a specially designed high-neck swimsuit to accentuate her figure, a testament to her adaptability and determination.

Crawford's victory marked a groundbreaking moment, as she became the first representative from Jamaica and the Caribbean to win the title.

This historic victory was celebrated with great fanfare upon her return to Jamaica. "The reception when I returned was amazing. The airport was packed with people. The government issued millions of commemorative stamps with my picture in a swimsuit. There were receptions with Sir Alexander Bustamante and Governor-General Sir Clifford Campbell and his wife. I was presented with the golden key to the city of Kingston," Crawford recalled in an interview.

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness paid tribute to Crawford in a statement, calling her a "true pioneer of Jamaica".

“Carole’s victory at just 20 years old not only broke stereotypes but also brought great pride to our country, showcasing the beauty and talent of Jamaica to the world. Her legacy is one of resilience and inspiration, reminding us that greatness has no boundaries,” he said.

Crawford's Miss World victory in 1963 and the subsequent celebrations, including the issuance of a commemorative stamp by the Jamaica Post, remain etched in the nation's history as a moment of pride and cultural significance.
