Indonesia announces presidential election results

Indonesia's Election Commission announced that Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto won the presidential election held on February 14, receiving 59% of the vote, far surpassing his two opponents Anies Baswedan and Ganjar Pranowo, who received 25% and 16% of the vote, respectively, according to Reuters citing the final vote count of the Indonesian Election Commission.

Indonesia's Election Commission also announced that Indonesia's largest party PDI-P received the most votes in the parliamentary election held on the same day, followed by Golkar, and Prabowo's Gerindra party in third place.

Mr. Prabowo (73 years old) is expected to take over from outgoing Indonesian President Joko Widodo in October.

Mr. Prabowo had a 28-year military career before entering business and politics . Vice presidential candidate Gibran Rakabuming Raka (37 years old) running with Mr. Prabowo is the son of President Joko Widodo.

During his campaign, Mr. Prabowo declared that he would strive to maintain positive relations with all countries, with Indonesia's non-aligned foreign policy and pursue a good neighborly policy. He focused on strengthening military power to protect the country.

Mr Prabowo's strategy is to increase the country's prosperity, improve the quality of life and provide nutrition for all Indonesian children. He also made many commitments to build houses, hospitals, health centers and invest in education, science and technology.
