Western tourists respectfully burn incense and pray for flowers with farmers in 500-year-old vegetable village

(Dan Tri) - On the 7th day of Tet (February 4), despite the pouring rain, locals and tourists still eagerly attended the flower praying festival at the 500-year-old Tra Que vegetable village in Hoi An city, Quang Nam province.


On the 7th day of the first lunar month, people of Tra Que vegetable village, Cam Ha commune, Hoi An city, held the Cau Bong festival, a meaningful traditional event.

The festival is an opportunity for people to express their respect to their ancestors who pioneered Tra Que vegetable village, and to pray for a year of favorable weather and bountiful crops.

The festival is not only an opportunity to teach and instruct the younger generation about the merits of their ancestors but also an opportunity to promote the image of Tra Que vegetable village to domestic and foreign tourists.

In December 2024, Tra Que vegetable village was awarded the Best Tourist Village 2024 by the United Nations Tourism Organization, a great honor for the local community.

Mr. Paul Simon, a tourist from Australia, shared: "I participated from the beginning to the end of the ceremony, everyone was very respectful and solemn. I was very touched and excited to attend this special festival, you have done a great job of preserving and maintaining local culture".

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh, Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee, emphasized that the locality will continue to organize activities to introduce Tra Que vegetable village to locals and tourists, while promoting the value of the Best Tourist Village award in 2024.

Tra Que, located about 2.5km north of Hoi An ancient town, has existed for nearly 500 years. Local people still maintain traditional farming methods, contributing to the preservation of local cultural heritage.

Currently, Tra Que vegetable village supplies 4-5 tons of vegetables per day to supermarkets and food stores in Da Nang and Quang Nam, contributing to improving people's lives and promoting experiential tourism.

On April 4, 2022, the vegetable growing profession in Tra Que vegetable village was included in the list of National Intangible Cultural Heritage "Folk Knowledge, Traditional Crafts" by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
