Immediately after the incident of landslide on the Mo River canal bank belonging to the Nha Le canal system in Dong Nam commune (Thanh Hoa city), the agricultural sector and related units coordinated to inspect the actual scene, assess the cause and deploy solutions to overcome the incident.

At 1:30 p.m. on February 4, a landslide occurred on the bank of the Song Mo canal belonging to the Nha Le canal system in Dong Nam commune ( Thanh Hoa city), adjacent to the brick quarry of the Mai Chu brick and tile factory, which had run out of reserves, with a length of about 40m.

The incident was determined by the authorities to be caused by Mai Chu Transport - Construction and Brick and Tile Production Joint Stock Company arbitrarily cutting the bank of Song Mo canal belonging to Nha Le canal system in Dong Nam commune, Thanh Hoa city to take water into the pond (formerly a mine exploiting raw materials for brick making) located adjacent to the broken canal bank to raise fish, leading to the canal being broken wider.

Fortunately, the incident did not cause any damage to people or property.

Faced with the above situation, on February 5, 2025, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development issued Official Dispatch No. 424/SNN&PTNT-TL reporting to the Provincial People's Committee on the incident of landslides on the banks of the Song Mo canal belonging to the Nha Le canal system in Dong Nam commune, Thanh Hoa city.

To ensure safety for the project and serve production, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has requested Song Chu One Member Co., Ltd. and related parties to continue operating and regulating Mai Chu and Dong Hung sluices, etc. and projects on the system to lower the water level of Mo River, minimizing the risk of increased landslides at the incident location.

Urgently coordinate with Mai Chu Transport - Construction and Brick and Tile Production Joint Stock Company, Dong Nam Commune People's Committee mobilizes resources to immediately handle the incident before February 9, 2025 in accordance with the commitment of Mai Chu Transport - Construction and Brick and Tile Production Joint Stock Company, ensuring construction safety, and soon ensuring water supply for production in the Spring crop of 2025.

Relevant units review and supplement disaster prevention plans for construction works in accordance with the actual situation, ready to respond when there is rain, flood or incident. Organize patrols and guard to ensure safety for construction works and people living around the area. Regularly monitor weather developments, rain and flood and proactively regulate the water level of Song Mo canal to ensure construction safety; proactively develop water supply plans for production in accordance with the actual situation.
