18-year-old swimmer disappointed after only... winning gold medal at world championship

This is McIntosh's third gold medal at the 2025 World Swimming Championships. However, the Canadian swimmer is not too happy because her bigger goal has not been achieved.

McIntosh entered the 200m butterfly final hoping to break the world record of 2 minutes 01.81 seconds set by Liu Zige (China) in 2009.

McIntosh was superior to the finalists, leaving the silver medalist behind by 3 seconds, but the Canadian athlete's time was only 2 minutes 01.99 seconds, 0.18 seconds behind Liu Zige's record.

After finishing, McIntosh shouted loudly and expressed his disappointment: "Before entering the final tonight, July 31, my coach and I set a big goal of breaking the world record. That's what made me try to practice all this time."

"Seeing myself just a little bit short of making it, I knew I made a mistake in the last 15m of the race. Overall I'm happy with this result and my personal record, but tonight I still didn't reach my goal," McIntosh continued.

McIntosh is aiming to equal Michael Phelps' record of five individual gold medals at a single world swimming championship. Before winning the 200m butterfly, McIntosh won the 400m freestyle and 200m medley.

The Canadian swimmer still has two events left to compete in: the 800m freestyle and the 400m individual medley. If he maintains his form, McIntosh can completely equal the achievements of the legendary Michael Phelps.
