Many wind power projects in the western region of Lam Dong province overlap with bauxite planning.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh has just signed an official dispatch requesting localities to urgently implement the Government's policy on removing obstacles and difficulties for renewable energy projects.

In the telegram, the Prime Minister requested the Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee to direct the implementation and complete the handling of difficulties and obstacles of wind and solar power projects that overlap with mineral planning. Lam Dong Province must promptly complete and report the results to the Government before July 25.

In Lam Dong province, a number of licensed renewable energy projects are identified to overlap with national mineral reserves. The overlapping projects are located in Binh Thuan and Dak Nong provinces (before merging with the old Lam Dong).

Wind power projects that overlap with bauxite planning need to be resolved soon to avoid causing waste.

In particular, in the old Binh Thuan area, the authorities identified 13 solar power projects that were granted permission to overlap with the planning area for exploration, exploitation, processing and use of titanium ore. There were 5 wind power projects with approved locations and 7 wind power projects that were allowed to be built in the titanium planning area.

In the old Dak Nong area, there are 6 approved and implemented wind power projects that overlap with the bauxite planning area. Of these, 1 project has been completed and put into operation, 5 projects are under construction or have not yet been put into operation to generate electricity.

Binh Thuan province (old) is identified as the “capital” of titanium in the country with a planned reserve area of over 54,000 hectares. Dak Nong province (old) is the “capital” of bauxite with a planned exploration and exploitation area of about 179,000 hectares.

According to localities, renewable energy projects occupy very little area and basically do not affect mineral reserves. Overlapping projects under implementation, if resolved, will contribute greatly to energy growth in particular and economic growth in general.

Recently, localities have petitioned the Government to resolve difficulties related to overlapping renewable energy projects and mineral planning. The Government has assigned localities to take the lead in handling difficulties and proposing solutions to difficulties caused by overlapping planning.
