Speaking in the parliament , Minister Pistorius stressed that Berlin will allocate 53.25 billion euros for next year, an increase of 1.3 billion euros, although less than he requested. In addition, the country will use a special fund worth 22 billion euros in 2025. Therefore, Germany will spend more than 75 billion euros on security and defense.

This year, for the first time in more than three decades, Germany will spend 2% of its GDP on defense as required by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

He also noted that in the future, Berlin will have to increase defense spending more strongly.

Germany has recently tightened land border controls to prevent illegal migration, terrorist threats and cross-border organized crime.

However, Berlin's move has sparked reactions from neighboring countries and the European Union (EU) due to concerns about the impact on the Schengen area's principle of free movement.

Germany's neighbours are concerned about the disruption to trade, tourism and European unity, and the European Commission is currently discussing with Berlin the decision to impose border controls on the EU's top economy .
