Ha Tinh and the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group will agree on solutions to build the most optimal plan for the Thach Khe iron ore mining and processing project to submit to the Politburo and the Government.
On the afternoon of July 3, Provincial Party Secretary Hoang Trung Dung, Provincial People's Committee Chairman Vo Trong Hai and Chairman of the Board of Members of Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV) Ngo Hoang Ngan co-chaired a meeting to discuss and agree on solutions for the Thach Khe iron ore mining and processing project to advise the Government . The Thach Khe iron ore mining and processing investment project is invested by Thach Khe Iron Joint Stock Company (TIC) under TKV.
The project has an ore reserve of over 544 million tons, considered the largest iron mine in Southeast Asia, accounting for half of the country's iron ore reserves. The project has a total adjusted investment capital of over 14,500 billion VND, divided into 2 phases.

In September 2009, the project conducted a technology test and stripped the topsoil. However, the process of stripping the topsoil showed some shortcomings in the technical design, mining technology and faced financial difficulties. By November 2011, the project had to be suspended to re-evaluate the technical design and restructure shareholders.
Up to now, the project still has many shortcomings, not ensuring conditions for continued implementation; posing many potential risks and safety risks during implementation.
Professor - Academician Nguyen Huy My analyzed the issues as a scientific basis for stopping the project.
After listening to TKV's information about the project's current status and proposed intermediate solutions to continue implementation, delegates and scientists focused on analyzing the legal basis, scientific nature and practical effectiveness of the project.
Especially the possible consequences that may occur, affecting the environment, society, and people's lives if the project continues to be implemented.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Board of Members of TKV Ngo Hoang Ngan said that it is necessary to study and have an overall view of the project; at the same time, he hopes that businesses and localities will agree on a plan to remove and solve problems, ensuring harmony of interests.
Concluding the working session, Provincial Party Secretary Hoang Trung Dung emphasized that the provincial leaders are extremely concerned about the possible consequences if the Thach Khe iron ore mining and processing project continues to be implemented.

Because Thach Khe iron mine is located near the center of Ha Tinh city, close to the coast, the nearest place is 300m; meanwhile, the exploitation plans proposed by TKV are not really convincing, so the provincial leaders proposed the Government to stop the exploitation. Regarding the settlement of some backlogs, the provincial leaders committed to work with TKV to find the most optimal plan to submit to the Government.
Based on the opinions of the delegates, the leaders of Ha Tinh and TKV agreed to discuss solutions to build the most optimal plan for the Thach Khe iron ore mining and selection project to submit to the Politburo and the Government in the coming time.
On this occasion, the Provincial Party Secretary also thanked the group for its recent attention to implementing many social security activities in Ha Tinh.
