Recently, research firm Omdia shared a roadmap for the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models launching in 2026 that will not have a rabbit ear notch but instead have a hole-punch camera on top.

Removing the notch means that the laptop will have more pixels on the screen, which could slightly increase the usable area of the macOS menu bar. Removing the notch will also make the screen look more seamless overall.

The source also said that the future MacBook Pro will switch from rounded corners and notches to rounded corners and a cutout to accommodate the device's webcam. However, it is unclear whether the display will have a hidden hole-punch camera underneath or extend the iPhone's Dynamic Island to the Mac.

The roadmap revealed by Omdia also aligns with previous reports suggesting Apple plans to overhaul the MacBook Pro line's design in 2026 when OLED displays will be introduced on the laptop line.

Apple will use the same OLED display technology as the iPad Pro introduced this year, with MacBook Pro models featuring OLED displays expected to be released in 2026.

The 2026 major update will be the first since 2021 when Apple notably introduced the notch on the MacBook Pro as an area to house a 1080p webcam.

The current MacBook Pro M4 has a mini-LED display, and next year's M5 series is expected to maintain similar specifications. Therefore, many users are looking forward to upgrading to a MacBook Pro with a high-end OLED display.
