The Ministry of National Defense has just approved the Project to organize a parade to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory (May 7, 1954). Four forces were mobilized to participate, including: ceremonial artillery; air force salute; marching troops and a team standing on the field, with a total of 12,000 people.
Eighteen 105mm howitzers opened the parade with 21 volleys of artillery fire to the background of the National Anthem of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. This was followed by a performance by nine helicopters carrying the Party and national flags flying over the stage.
The parade force consists of 4 honor guard blocks, 24 army blocks, militia and self-defense forces, and police. The parade block consists of 9 veteran blocks, youth volunteers, frontline laborers, workers, farmers, intellectuals, youth, women, the Northwest ethnic groups block, and finally the art block.
The last time Vietnam held a parade to celebrate the Dien Bien Phu victory was in 2014 in Dien Bien province - the place that marked the battle that "resounded throughout five continents and shook the world".
On the afternoon of May 7, 1954, the flag of the Vietnam People's Army flew over the roof of General De Castries' bunker, ending the 55-day and night campaign of "digging mountains and sleeping in tunnels", destroying the French Dien Bien Phu stronghold in Indochina, contributing to the end of the 9-year resistance war against France.
One day after the defeat at Dien Bien Phu, on May 8, 1954, France had to sit at the negotiating table at the Geneva Conference to discuss the Indochina issue. After the conference, France recognized the freedom, unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Indochinese countries, including Vietnam, and ended the colonial regime in these countries.
The Battle of Dien Bien Phu is considered by many military experts to be one of the greatest battles of the 20th century, initiating the struggle for independence of many nations around the world.
