Mongolia exempts visa for Vietnamese visitors

VnExpressVnExpress06/03/2024

From March 7, Vietnamese visitors to Mongolia for a stay of no more than 30 days will not need a visa.

The Mongolian government website on March 4 announced a list of countries exempted from visas to enter the country, including Vietnam, effective from March 7. This is the latest move by the Mongolian government to attract Vietnamese tourists. Previously, Vietnamese tourists to Mongolia had to apply for a visa (waiting time for issuance is 5-7 working days) or an e-visa (3 days). The visa fee includes 25 USD and additional fees.

Vietnamese citizens can apply for e-visas for 3 purposes: tourism , transit and participation in events. According to instructions from the Mongolian Immigration Department, visitors who are granted e-visas can print out a paper copy or save it on their phones and present it at the border gate. In addition to the above purposes, Vietnamese visitors need to apply for a paper visa.

Sharing with VnExpress , Zolo Zolkhuu, a local tour guide specializing in leading Vietnamese tourists, said that in reality, applying for a Mongolian visa is not difficult, but many Vietnamese tourists are hesitant to research how to apply for a visa, so they prioritize choosing countries that do not require a visa. "There will be more Vietnamese tourists coming," Zolo said.

According to Zolo, in 2023, Mongolian travel agencies welcomed about 1,300 Vietnamese tourists. Zolo Company, which acts as a tour guide, welcomed 30% of these Vietnamese tourists. The male tour guide said that the number of Vietnamese tourists coming to Mongolia in winter has increased gradually in recent years. From November 2023 to now, he has led about 50 Vietnamese tourists to see the snow in the cold from -20 to -40 degrees Celsius.

Ha Thu, 28, said she really wanted to visit the vast grasslands of Mongolia but had not had the chance. "I will travel this summer," Thu said after learning about the visa exemption.
