Coach Erik ten Hag wants to bring in a striker in the January transfer window to support Rasmus Hojlund, who has just scored his first goal for the Red Devils after 14 appearances.
After 20 rounds of the Premier League, MU has scored a modest 22 goals, the third team to score the fewest goals in the tournament, only better than the two bottom teams Sheffield (15 goals) and Burnley (20 goals).
Hojlund arrived from Atalanta in the summer of 2023, expected to help the Red Devils improve the quality of their attack. However, the 20-year-old star "struggled" in the context of Rashford, Martial, and Antony all declining in form.
Timo Werner is said to be among the names on MU's shortlist. The German striker played for Chelsea before returning home to join Leipzig.

Instead, he is set to join Tottenham on loan until the end of the season with an option to buy if he wishes. Leipzig head coach Marco Rose has confirmed this.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed the reason why MU did not make an offer for Timo Werner, which surprised many people:
“MU also considered signing Timo Werner but then decided against it because they… were still unclear about what type of player they wanted!”.
In the summer of 2023, MU spent nearly 200 million pounds to bring in players that coach Erik ten Hag wanted such as Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund, Mason Mount... but it only showed that new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe had to tighten up the shopping in a more shrewd and effective way.
