MU temporarily unties Rashford case

Marcus Rashford has officially moved to Barcelona on a season-long loan, with a buyout clause worth 30 million euros (about 26 million pounds).

Rashford has moved to Barcelona.

Although they did not reach a permanent sale as initially desired, Man United can still see this as a strategic move in the urgent context of finance and squad status.

From the beginning of the summer, Man United made it clear that parting ways with Rashford was a top priority. The Englishman was no longer in coach Ruben Amorim's future plans, and the club itself needed to free up its wage bill and generate revenue for future purchases. However, the hope of an early sale quickly became impossible when no partner was willing to meet the asking price.

The worst-case scenario would have been to keep Rashford for another season and continue to face the pressure of having too many players. Instead, United moved quickly, agreeing to loan him to Barcelona - a solution that, while not perfect, would still open up the possibility of recouping a fee of €30m if the Catalans decided to buy him outright next summer.

Notably, this Man United deal comes at a time when Manchester City are still struggling with the Jack Grealish problem. The English midfielder is not on the list for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and is being put up for sale, but no team is ready to make a move. Grealish is still training with the first team, but the possibility of playing is very low. The longer it takes, the more his transfer value will decrease and the harder it will be for the club to find a suitable outlet.

Compared to that situation, Man United can temporarily breathe a sigh of relief. Although they have not completed the sale of Rashford, they have avoided the scenario of "stuck goods" and falling into a weak position in negotiations like their neighbors. Moreover, pushing Rashford away early also helps stabilize the squad, paving the way for new deals - something Man City has not been able to do with Grealish.

It can be said that Man United's £26 million gamble has not yet been decided, but they have made it at the right time. If Barcelona are convinced by Rashford's performance next season, this deal will bring both financial and strategic benefits to the Old Trafford team. And only then will Man United's initiative on the transfer board really show its value.
