According to the Hydrometeorological Center of Thua Thien Hue province, since the afternoon of November 14, there has been prolonged heavy rain in the province, especially in the upstream mountainous provinces, forcing hydroelectric reservoirs to regulate, causing large amounts of water to flow downstream, causing the water levels in rivers in Hue city to rise rapidly.

The Department of Education and Training of Thua Thien Hue province also issued an urgent dispatch on the night of November 14, informing students across the province to stay home from school on November 15 due to complicated developments of heavy rain.

Rapidly rising river water combined with prolonged heavy rain in Hue City on the night of November 14 and early morning of November 15 caused many roads to be heavily flooded. Many households in low-lying areas in Hue City had to stay up all night to clean up and move their belongings to higher ground to avoid damage from floodwaters.

According to Mr. Viet, a resident of Huynh Thuc Khang Street (Dong Ba Ward), one of the lowest-lying streets in Hue City, the prolonged heavy rain caused the water to rise quickly and flood into his house, leaving his family unable to react in time. Mr. Viet’s family only had time to put valuable items up high to avoid flooding, while many other items had to accept being submerged in water.

Many car owners on some low-lying roads in Hue city such as Hung Vuong, Ben Nghe, Nguyen Duc Canh, To Huu… also did not have time to move their vehicles, causing their cars to be flooded. Many people were forced to hire cranes to move their cars to dry places, avoiding serious damage to their property.

On social networking platforms such as Facebook, Zalo... many people in Hue also continuously share images and videos about the flood situation in their place of residence. According to Dan Tri reporters, some areas in Hue city have had their electricity cut off to prevent dangerous accidents.

According to the Hydrometeorological Center of Thua Thien Hue province, in the next 24 hours, the whole province will continue to experience heavy rain. Water levels on rivers continue to rise rapidly, of which the Huong River is predicted to rise to 4m (0.5m higher than alarm level III), equivalent to the flood peak in 2022; the Bo River will rise to 3.65m (0.65m higher than alarm level II), and the Truoi River will rise to 3.0m.

The development of this flood season is predicted to be complicated, so people need to pay attention to update the latest information to have effective disaster prevention and control plans to minimize possible damage.
