According to Sponichi, Japan's head coach Hajime Moriyasu was late for the press conference at the 2023 Asian Cup. The newspaper described that midfielder Takefusa Kubo felt embarrassed and could only laugh it off when he and his coach arrived 10 minutes later than the schedule given by the organizers.
This is the second time coach Hajime Moriyasu has been late for a meeting in just two weeks. At the press conference before the match against the Vietnamese team, the strategist born in 1968 was nearly 20 minutes late. Mr. Moriyasu and Wataru Endo were late because... they went to the wrong press conference location.

As soon as the press conference before the match between Bahrain and Japan took place, Mr. Hajime Moriyasu had to apologize: “ This is the second time I am late for a press conference at the 2023 Asian Cup. The late arrival further damaged the image of coach Hajime Moriyasu in the eyes of fans. After the success at the 2022 World Cup and a series of 10 consecutive wins against many big opponents, coach Hajime Moriyasu and his team performed poorly at the 2023 Asian Cup.
In the opening match against Vietnam, Japan was behind at times and had to find a way to come back against their opponents. They lost 1-2 to Iraq and could only advance if they defeated Indonesia.
Coach Hajime Moriyasu said: " The Japanese team knows they can play better than their current performance. But the teams in Asia are improving and they are more competitive. The gap between the top teams and the lower teams has shortened, that is my impression ."
According to the 55-year-old coach, he highly appreciates Bahrain but the Japanese team is aiming for victory against the West Asian opponent. The match between Japan and Bahrain takes place at 6:30 p.m. on January 31.
