Died of cancer at 17

At the age of 17, Bach had to befriend medication and chemotherapy needles inserted deep into his body. He had to undergo chemotherapy 4 times, one time the chemotherapy lasted up to 2 months.

Hearing that his younger brother was sick, Bach's older brother temporarily put aside his work in Japan to return home to take care of his younger brother. Bach's parents were also by his side day and night, encouraging and motivating their son to overcome the terrible disease.

Not only family, friends, but also Bach's teachers always asked about him, giving him more motivation and hope to continue studying and preparing for the university entrance exam. At that time, he had to postpone a year of school to treat his illness.

Solving questions and reviewing for university entrance exams right on the hospital bed

During the months on the hospital bed, Bach never stopped studying, reviewing and solving problems.

“Every time I finish a problem, I feel more empowered to overcome my illness,” Huy Bach smiled gently as he shared about the motivation that made him forget the pain during treatment.

The image of the student always carrying books and outlines when coming for examination and treatment made the doctors and nurses of the hospital admire him.

“Normal people are so tired after chemotherapy that they can’t even eat or drink, but Huy Bach can receive chemotherapy in the morning and study at night. Even the doctors are impressed by his studiousness,” said Master Phan Thi Thuy Trang, Department of Emergency Resuscitation, National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.

This university entrance exam also posed another challenge for Bach as it was his first year taking the exam under the new program.

Due to poor health, Bach could not attend extra classes as much as his peers. In addition to making the most of his time listening to lectures and asking questions to teachers at school, Bach registered for online classes and actively reviewed at home.

Not letting down his persistent efforts and strong will to overcome his illness, the excellent student received the results of the National High School Exam with a total score of 28 points in block A00 with the respective scores of Math 9, Physics 9.25 and Chemistry 9.75. These are very admirable scores for any student, not to mention the fact that Bach had to take a year off to treat his illness.

With the desired score, Bach wishes to enter Hanoi Pedagogical University, Faculty of Mathematics, to continue his dream of becoming a math teacher.

Upon receiving his exam scores, Bach immediately called and shared his joy with the doctors and nurses at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion. Dr. Trang recounted that the entire department burst into happiness when they learned that Bach had reaped the sweet fruit of his tireless efforts.

Thanks to the advancement of science and the care and encouragement of the doctors and nurses at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, I was able to achieve my dream,” Huy Bach sent his thanks to the doctors and nurses who accompanied him during his days of fighting the disease.
