Doctors from the Department of Urology at Duc Giang General Hospital ( Hanoi ) have successfully treated a male patient whose entire "private area" was crushed and his urethra was severed due to a fall from a height due to a domestic accident.
The patient is Mr. VHG (54 years old, residing in Long Bien District, Hanoi), admitted to the hospital on June 13 with swelling in the scrotum on both sides, accompanied by a wound in the right scrotum about 1 cm long, heavy bleeding, and urination through the wound on the right side.
Doctors operated on a male patient whose entire "private area" was crushed and his urethra severed after falling from a height of 2 meters.
Ultrasound results showed that the scrotal area had a lot of blood and blood clots. Retrograde cystourethrography showed the image of the drug leaking out of the urethra. The patient was diagnosed with a ruptured urethra and bilateral scrotal injuries and required emergency surgery.
Doctor Bui Truong Giang, Deputy Head of the Department of Urology, and anesthesiologist performed surgery on the patient.
During the surgery, doctors discovered that the patient's scrotum and testicles were bruised and had a lot of blood clots. Examination of the urethra revealed that the two ends of the anterior urethra were severed.
Doctors performed a procedure to remove blood clots in the scrotum on both sides, and sutured the testicles to preserve them; at the same time, they removed crushed tissue in the anterior urethra and sutured the urethra. After surgery, the patient had a catheter inserted and urine flow checked to ensure good circulation. It is expected that the patient will be in good health and discharged next week.
Talking to the doctor about the accident, the patient said that while he was repairing the roof at a height of about 2 meters, the roof suddenly collapsed, the patient fell and his "private part" hit a hard object, causing continuous bleeding and pain. Immediately after that, the patient was taken to Duc Giang General Hospital for emergency treatment.
Doctor Giang assessed that the above patient is a rare case with deep internal damage. If subjective, the patient will ignore the condition, making it difficult to treat later. If not hospitalized in time for treatment, the patient will have genital necrosis due to urinary infection.
"Urethral rupture injuries that are treated immediately with sutures are better because they minimize complications of urethral stricture. This is a difficult technique that requires high expertise and is performed at hospitals with urology departments," said Dr. Giang.
