Mr. TV D said this was the first time such a tragic incident had happened here.

Recalling the incident, Mr. D said: “ The boat carrying the group of students and parents that day was Mr. P’s boat, taking guests to experience catching clams next to the pine forest, this area is quite dangerous due to the complex currents. At that time, the tide was high, the children were playing in the low-lying area, the sand was easily subsided .”

According to Mr. D., after the sand subsidence, the parents and crew members tried to save the children, but unfortunately, one parent and one child died. Immediately afterwards, divers and authorities were mobilized in large numbers to search. The child's body was found at around 3am the next morning at the point of subsidence, while the parents' bodies were found at noon the same day, when the bodies floated out into the pine forest, and people on their way to work saw them and reported them to the border guard station.

This is the first time such a tragic incident has happened here. So heartbreaking… ”, Mr. D said.

Currently, ships returning to anchorage are not allowed to receive tourists, until further notice.

Mr. D. added that since the incident, authorities have come down here many times, requesting that all ships be stopped. In the past two days, some groups of tourists have come to experience the tour, but no ships have been allowed to run.

Ms. S, another resident who also owns a tourist boat here, said: “ Every day, the boats run according to the customers’ requests. Everyone here who can build a boat runs their own passenger transport business. My family has been building boats for 5 years and welcomes a large number of customers, especially on weekends and holidays.

The incident that just happened was so heartbreaking. The clam-catching area has some very deep spots, the group of students experienced right at the point where the sand was sinking, at the same time the tide was rising. Normally, the boat owners should know this and remind the tourists. If I pick up guests, I will always have to send someone to remind them of the fun spots, the dangerous spots, and that they cannot just walk around like that, ” Ms. S. shared.

Regarding the above tragic incident, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Manh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Giao Thien Commune (Giao Thuy District), said that on the day of the incident, there were 3 passenger ships arriving late at the beach. After that, 2 ships went ashore first. The ship carrying the group of students and parents from Hanoi stayed and experienced for about 30 minutes before the unfortunate incident happened. " Before visiting, the students did not wear life jackets because this place is not a beach but a shallow sandbank ," said Mr. Manh.
