Australian actor Andre Rerekura was given a free drink by an airline for helping catch a snake that unexpectedly appeared on a flight.

A rare incident occurred when actor Rerekura, who plays the lead role in Disney's short series Shipwreck Hunters Australia , discovered a snake on his flight, according to The Independent on November 23.

Accordingly, a Virgin Airlines (Australia) flight departing from Broome town to Perth city of Australia on November 21 was interrupted when a passenger screamed loudly after discovering a snake on the plane, forcing the crew to temporarily delay the take-off schedule and handle the situation. During the chaos, Mr. Rerekura said he saw the snake right next to him and easily recognized it as a Stimson python, a non-venomous snake.

"As soon as I saw it, I recognised it quite easily, so I knew it was safe and felt it was just scared and shy," Mr Rerekura told ABC News Australia, adding he had no trouble grabbing the snake and removing it from the plane.

The Australian actor said everyone on the flight was grateful for his courage and the crew gave him a free drink. "I think everyone was relieved that they didn't have to leave the plane and that it was a non-venomous snake," he said. The incident caused a 20-minute delay.

According to the Australian Museum, Stimson pythons have "a pattern of large reddish-brown spots along their lighter-colored bodies." This isn't the first time snakes have been spotted on flights. In January, Thai AirAsia passengers were shocked to find a snake in the overhead bin. At the time, a crew member tried to catch the snake using a plastic bottle.
