Booking.com giant sued by 10,000 European hotels

Legal battle shakes tourism industry: more than 10,000 hotels sue Booking.com over “best price” policy that is considered unfair and anti-competitive.

An unprecedented class action lawsuit is underway against accommodation booking platform Booking.com.

More than 10,000 hotels across Europe have accused Booking.com of forcing them to use disadvantageous “best price” terms.

This clause prohibits hotels from offering lower prices on any other channel, including their official website.

In 2024, the EU Court of Justice determined that this policy hindered competition and violated the law.

Although Booking.com has since abolished the clause in the European Economic Area (EEA), many hotels say they have suffered for years.

Hotel Claims Alliance and hotel industry associations are behind this class action lawsuit.

Booking.com denies all allegations and says it is ready to defend itself in court.

If they win the lawsuit, the hotels could be compensated up to 30% of their total commission fees from 2004 to present.
