Pakistani Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar said on November 9 that the Kashmir dispute between Pakistan and India must be resolved to normalize relations between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

In an exclusive interview with Anadolu Agency on the sidelines of the 16th Economic Cooperation Organization summit in the Uzbekistani capital Tashkent, Mr. Kakar said: “Kashmir is a prominent issue between India and Pakistan.

Pakistan's traditional position is that the issue should be resolved through UN Security Council resolutions.

They (Kashmirs) have every right to decide their future, their destiny... and Pakistan will always support that position, diplomatically and politically .”

According to Mr Kakar, there was a realization “on all fronts” that the Kashmir dispute had to be “dealt with and resolved if relations were to be normalized” between the two countries.

However, the answer to “when” and “how” this relationship will be normalized is “certainly” a challenge for all sectors of society including leaders, intellectuals, businessmen and civil society of the two countries.
