Saudi Arabia's Foreign Ministry said on May 27 that a technical delegation from the country has arrived in the Syrian capital Damascus to prepare for the reopening of the Saudi Embassy in Syria, as the two countries agreed to resume formal relations after more than a decade of severing diplomatic ties .

A Saudi Arabian Foreign Ministry announcement said the country's technical team has arrived in the Syrian capital Damascus to carry out the task of reopening the Saudi Arabian diplomatic mission in the Syrian Arab Republic.

Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries withdrew their embassies from Syria after the Syrian civil war began in 2011.

Syria was restored to membership in the Arab League (AL) in early May 2023.

The AL summit held on May 19 in the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah was the first conference attended by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in 12 years.

Previously, on May 9, Saudi Arabia announced that its diplomats would resume mission operations in Syria.

This move to normalize diplomatic relations was later confirmed by the Damascus government.

In a statement by the Saudi Foreign Ministry published by the official Saudi Press Agency, Riyadh has decided to resume the activities of its diplomatic mission in Syria, and will seek to "develop joint action of the Arab world."

Meanwhile, Syria's SANA news agency also quoted a source from the country's Foreign Ministry as saying that the Damascus government has decided to resume the work of the diplomatic mission in Saudi Arabia./.
