Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên30/06/2024

French President Emmanuel Macron dissolved parliament and called early elections after his centrist coalition was defeated by the far-right in June’s European Parliament elections. The parliamentary election outcome will become clearer after the second round of voting on July 7.

Mr. Jordan Bardella voted on June 30.

Polls predict a high turnout and the far-right National Rally (RN) will come out on top with 35-37% of the vote, followed by the left-wing New Popular Front coalition with 27.5-29%. Mr Macron's centrists are forecast to get just 20-21%.

If RN wins an absolute majority, party leader Jordan Bardella (29 years old) could become prime minister and compete for power with President Macron.

President Macron suddenly warns of civil war, French opposition reacts

Since World War II, France has gone through three periods in which the president and government belonged to two opposing political forces. If RN wins with an absolute majority, it will disrupt French policies related to the EU or the Ukraine conflict.
