Endoscopic surgery in Vietnam is on par with the world, doctors from 11 countries come to study

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí23/11/2024

After its establishment, the first endoscopic surgery training center in Vietnam has trained thousands of doctors in endoscopic surgery, especially more than 800 doctors from 11 countries came to study.
At the opening ceremony of the National Surgical and Endoscopic Surgery Conference (held from November 21-23 in Ho Chi Minh City), Professor Tran Binh Giang, President of the Vietnam Surgical and Endoscopic Surgery Association, said that since its establishment in 1962, the Association has achieved many successes, becoming one of the prides of Vietnamese medicine. Vietnamese surgeons are always researching and learning new methods to make surgeries more effective and less invasive. Endoscopic surgery not only cures diseases but also minimizes unwanted effects on patients, helps reduce pain, recovers quickly and has high aesthetics.

Up to now, we can affirm that Vietnamese endoscopic surgery is on par with medical centers in the region and the world . Many difficult surgical methods that previously required open surgery have now been replaced by endoscopic surgery, such as heart valve repair or replacement. Endoscopic brain surgery and endoscopic skull base surgery through the nose to treat brain tumors have also been performed at many centers. Endoscopic surgery to remove liver and kidney from healthy donors for transplantation to patients is a complex surgical technique, requiring high level of experience and modern, synchronized equipment, and is also performed by Vietnamese doctors. In 2003, the first Endoscopic Surgery Training Center in Vietnam was established at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, creating a foundation for the development of endoscopic surgery in the country. Up to now, the Center has trained thousands of doctors in endoscopic surgery, especially more than 800 doctors from 11 countries have come to study.

Meanwhile, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital is one of the centers that performed the first organ transplants in Vietnam. Currently, this unit is the leading unit in the country in kidney transplants, heart transplants, lung transplants, and liver transplants from brain-dead donors. 108 Military Central Hospital has implemented a liver transplant program since October 2017. During its development, the hospital has set many records, such as completing 5 liver transplants from living donors in just one week, successfully performing the first laparoscopic right liver graft removal and the first laparoscopic total liver resection for the recipient in Vietnam. In addition, Cho Ray Hospital has achieved impressive achievements in the field of organ transplants, with 1,226 successful kidney transplants, 30 liver transplants, and 7 heart transplants, contributing to improving the quality of life of thousands of patients. Binh Dan Hospital has become the first place in Vietnam to apply robotic surgery for adults since 2016. To date, the hospital has successfully performed robotic surgery on more than 3,000 cases, focusing mainly on surgery to treat colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, kidney tumors and bladder cancer.

In addition to participating in training and granting certificates for robotic surgery in Vietnam, Binh Dan Hospital also transfers robotic surgery techniques to countries in the region, such as the Philippines. Professor Tran Binh Giang affirmed that in the future, with the foundation that has been built, the Vietnamese surgical industry will continue to have the potential to develop, aiming for higher standards of safety and efficiency.
