Quang Ninh - Destination of culinary quintessence

That is the theme of the Quang Ninh Culinary Festival 2024, which took place at the end of December. This is an annual event to continue to honor and enhance the rich and unique culinary culture of Quang Ninh to friends and tourists from all over the world. Thereby, strongly promoting the culinary tourism trend, affirming its mark on the world culinary map, contributing to making Quang Ninh an attractive four-season tourist destination.

Foreign tourists learn about Quang Ninh cuisine at the Food Festival.

In addition to the value of natural resources and culture, the uniqueness and attractiveness of the cuisine at the destination is also identified as one of the important factors creating motivation to promote tourism in Quang Ninh today. Following the success of previous festivals, the Quang Ninh Food Festival 2024 is the largest ever organized, attracting 130 units from 32 provinces and cities representing the three regions of North - Central - South to register to participate with a total of 200 booths. Of which, Quang Ninh province has 65 units and businesses registering nearly 130 booths to sell and introduce famous OCOP products and specialties of regions in the province.

Coming to Quang Ninh for the first time and having interesting experiences at the Food Festival, Mr. Oystein (a Norwegian tourist) excitedly shared: As a food lover, coming to the Quang Ninh Food Festival and enjoying many delicious dishes from all over Vietnam, I found it very interesting. I also knew about squid rolls - a culinary brand of Quang Ninh , but being able to directly watch the art of making squid rolls and enjoy delicious, hot pieces of squid rolls right at the Festival was what impressed me the most.

Along with squid rolls, many special dishes with typical culinary cultures of the localities also leave their mark on the hearts of tourists from all over the world. These are the rich flavor of golden flower tea of Ba Che, the unique dishes of the Dao ethnic people in Thuong Yen Cong commune (Uong Bi city), the traditional cakes (nodding cakes, gio cakes, banh chung with long rice...) of Tien Yen; the fresh seafood of Van Don...

In particular, through activities such as beautiful booth decoration contest, presentation on cuisine, regional specialties, sale of famous OCOP products, attractive art performances with traditional art colors of ethnic minorities, Xam singing, Cheo singing, and love singing of fishermen in Quang Ninh coastal areas, folk games, the Festival has introduced to people and tourists the unique features of Quang Ninh culture and tourism, the potential of culinary tourism and aims to elevate and renew the province's culinary products.

Mr. Pham Van Thuy, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, said: It can be said that cuisine is an inseparable "link" of the smokeless industry, one of the useful levers to promote tourism development. In addition, bringing cuisine closer to tourists is also a way to promote local culture, extend the length of stay, increase average spending and create revenue for the locality. Therefore, the Quang Ninh Food Festival 2024 not only demonstrates the strong recovery of the tourism industry after storm No. 3 but also shows the province's efforts in creating attractive tourism products all year round, attracting more international visitors to Quang Ninh and Vietnam.

Not only the Provincial Food Festival is held annually, for many years, localities in the province have maintained the organization of festivals and cultural festivals with the highlight being the unique culinary space. These include: Van Don Food Festival with oyster cooking competition; Tien Yen Chicken King contest introducing chicken specialties, pho stir-frying competition at the Wind Abstinence Festival (Binh Lieu), Duong Hoa Tea Festival (Hai Ha)...

At a higher level, in the OCOP program, Quang Ninh has built and formed traditional culinary brands, typical of the locality, bringing high efficiency. Up to now, Quang Ninh has many culinary products loved by tourists, such as: Dong Trieu yellow flower sticky rice, Mong Cai pig, Tien Yen chicken, Van Don sea worms, Co To squid, Ha Long squid rolls, Binh Lieu dong vermicelli, Morinda officinalis wine, Ba Che yellow flower tea... In particular, cuisine has become the highlight of many night cruise products visiting Ha Long with brands such as: Sea Octopus, Ambassador, Paradise Delight... loved by tourists.

Culinary tourism has been bringing unique and unforgettable experiences to tourists when they set foot in each new land. This is also one of the important product lines contributing to enhancing competitive advantages and promoting culture, affirming the Quang Ninh tourism brand in the coming time. Thereby, contributing to the province's tourism industry striving to achieve the target of welcoming 20 million visitors, including 4.5 million international visitors, with total tourism revenue reaching 50,000 billion VND in 2025.
