The 2023 National Festival of Good Stage Excerpts in Ha Nam has just ended with mixed feelings of joy and sadness.

As Mr. Nguyen Dang Chuong, Vice President of the Vietnam Stage Artists Association, commented, although the excerpts are not a complete picture depicting the appearance of Vietnamese stage art in the integration period, they are enough elements to perceive and evaluate the stage art's current status in the face of the demands of social life and the people's need to enjoy art.
106 excerpts from Cheo, Tuong, Cai Luong, folk drama, drama, circus with the participation of actors from 33 art units brought to the public and the profession a rich and colorful "party" of art. With 85/106 excerpts belonging to traditional theater art forms, it shows that, in conditions with many difficult challenges, traditional theater artists still aspire to create, try to overcome themselves, to filter the muddy to bring out the clear to preserve the profession, to pass on and continue the achievements that many previous generations have exhausted their entire lives to create. However, besides the excerpts that are made seriously, showing a sense of responsibility, reflecting directly or using old stories to talk about the present, aiming to mention many aspects of society, people... there are still excerpts that are "out of place", exaggerated to the point of absurdity, showing amateurism in staging as well as performance.
Every competition will have its good and bad points, but besides the signs of "decline" of some units, the most worrying thing is the appearance of signs of decline in quantity and quality in the team of actors. Many excerpts are cliched, old, repeating themselves, turning artists into "actors" on stage. In a professional playground, there are quite a few excerpts of Cheo that are considered as spoken drama, some excerpts use vulgar, vulgar language... And once again, the refrain of "hurriedly coming to the competition and then hurriedly returning" makes the purpose of learning and exchanging not complete.
After the festival, the art council also selected and awarded many medals and prizes to works of high artistic quality. However, if only those in the profession had better material and spiritual conditions to focus on art, then theater lovers would probably feel less sad.
