At exactly 11:11 a.m. on November 11 local time, the traditional German carnival officially opened in the city of Cologne, in the West of the country, kicking off hundreds of unique festival activities. This is also an important festival season known as the "fifth season" of the year for the German people.
On the opening day, thousands of locals and domestic and foreign tourists in colorful costumes gathered in the city center, cheering, drinking beer and participating in many other exciting events, including outdoor music performances.

This traditional carnival season in Germany starts for about a week and then takes a break around Christmas before starting again on New Year's Day and lasting until Ash Wednesday (February 14), a holiday when Christians focus on prayer and fasting.
