On the morning of December 13, the Faculty of Public Relations and Communications, Van Lang University, in collaboration with the Asian Network for News and Information Education (ANNIE), organized the International Academic Exchange Program - The 2024 ANNIE School Net Conference.

The two-day event brought together 70 lecturers and students from 13 universities from seven countries and territories: Japan, Hong Kong (China), India, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam.

The program focuses on three core activities to develop in-depth fact-checking and verification skills. Three students from each school will present their fact-checking projects over the past six months, sharing their research results or notable findings from their fact-checking work.

In addition, under the guidance of lecturers, students will be divided into small groups to play games, discuss, exchange knowledge, learn experiences in identifying real and fake information, and effective methods of verifying news. At the same time, members will also share experiences in dealing with fake news in their countries.

On the first day of the program, students were divided into groups to participate in games that demonstrated logical thinking as well as how to check information from different sources.

In addition, students also participated in a discussion sharing experiences in verifying information in their countries.

Professor Masato Kajimoto - Faculty of Journalism, University of Hong Kong, founder of ANNIE - shared: "ANNIE is proud to accompany organizations and universities in Asia to equip the young generation with important information verification skills. This is a valuable opportunity for students to not only learn but also become pioneers in the fight against fake news".

ANNIE is a non-profit organization founded in Hong Kong in 2012, with the aim of connecting educators, journalists, media professionals and policy makers in the field of media education and literacy in the Asia region.
