Reuters reported on March 16 that the Vatican press office announced that Pope Francis' health had improved over the past week.
The Vatican has updated that the Pope is recovering from his battle with double pneumonia and has reduced his use of a ventilator at night. “The Holy Father’s health condition remains stable, showing improvement over the past week,” the Vatican said.
Pope Francis was hospitalized on February 14 for pneumonia and has not been seen in public since. He will not attend the weekly prayer service on March 16, which will be his fifth consecutive week of absence.
The Vatican added that Pope Francis will continue to receive medical treatment, respiratory physiotherapy and occupational therapy, gradually reducing the frequency of non-invasive ventilation at night. The Vatican has not yet given a time when the Pope can be discharged from the hospital.

On March 15, AFP reported that Pope Francis receives thousands of letters every day from all over the world , while he is being treated at Gemelli Hospital in Rome (Italy). The Italian postal service said they receive “up to 150 kg of letters” every day, with messages expressing affection and praying for Pope Francis’ recovery.
According to Reuters, Pope Francis suffered from pleurisy as a young man and had part of his lung removed. He continues to do some work at the hospital, such as approving a three-year plan to review reforms of the global Catholic Church earlier this week, according to a statement from the Vatican on March 15. March 14 marked the 12th anniversary of Francis' inauguration.
