The Bangkok Post news agency quoted the new Thai Prime Minister, who is also the leader of the Pheu Thai Party, which leads the ruling coalition, as saying that she will discuss ministerial positions according to the party's quota with core party members on August 20.
Also this week, Ms Paetongtarn will discuss with all partners in the ruling coalition and carefully review the qualifications of all candidates nominated for cabinet positions to ensure “no further mistakes occur”.
The cabinet list will have to be finalized soon so that the Cabinet Secretariat and the Office of the Council of State can begin vetting the qualifications of the nominees before the final list is submitted to the Thai Royal Family for approval.
Thai media previously quoted several sources as saying that the six partners in the coalition led by the Pheu Thai Party reaffirmed the allocation ratio within the quota of 35 seats in the new cabinet.
According to coalition sources, the Pheu Thai party will hold 17 seats in the Cabinet, including the prime minister and eight ministerial positions, deputies and the minister of the Prime Minister's Office.
The Bhumjaithai Party will be allocated eight positions - including four ministerial positions and four deputies, while the United Thai National Party (UTN) will take on two ministerial positions and two deputies.
The People's Power Party (PPRP) will have two ministerial positions and two deputies, while the Prachachart Party and Chart Thai Pattana Party will each receive one ministerial position.
On August 16, the Thai House of Representatives convened and voted to elect Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra as the new prime minister, replacing Mr. Srettha Thavisin, who was recently dismissed by the Constitutional Court.
Ms. Paetongtarn became the 31st and youngest prime minister ever in Thailand. She is also the second female prime minister in the history of the Golden Temple country and the third member of the Shinawatra family to hold this position, after her father, Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra, and her aunt, Yingluck Shinawatra.
