Strengthening digital transformation in the education sector

Digital transformation (DTE) in education is not only the application of information technology, but also a comprehensive change in teaching and learning methods, educational management, as well as interactions between schools, teachers, students and parents.

The application of digital technology has helped personalize learning, provide live lectures, smart software, helping students access knowledge more easily. In education management, the system manages student data, scores, online learning progress, etc., helping schools and teachers grasp information quickly and accurately. Digital technology will break down barriers of space and time, allowing students to access distance learning courses, online learning or open resources.

At Duy Tan High School, Binh Kien Ward, software such as SMAS has been applied recently, helping teachers easily enter data, store and look up information, and digitize records and books in professional management such as: teaching plans, lesson plans, homeroom books... and manage them on an online platform. The school also manages scores and electronic transcripts. Entering scores and evaluating students is done through student management software, ensuring transparency, objectivity, and saving time. Electronic transcripts are deployed, helping parents monitor students' learning results anytime, anywhere. The school also uses digital platforms such as Zalo OA, electronic contact books, to update students' learning and training status promptly and accurately; deploying non-cash tuition collection through banking applications, e-wallets... contributing to financial transparency and modernizing administrative work.

According to Pham Van Tin, Permanent Vice Chairman of the School Board, Advisor to the Board of Directors of Duy Tan High School, digital transformation has been a focus of the school and has been promoted in teaching and learning for many years. All teachers use teaching support software such as PowerPoint, Canva, Google Forms, Quizizz, Kahoot, Padlet and organize online classes via Zoom, Google Meet... when necessary. “The application of digital transformation in teaching will help teachers and students exploit digital resources, including effectively exploiting open learning resources, video lectures, e-learning lectures, online test banks, in order to innovate teaching methods towards capacity development. For students, they are guided to study through platforms such as OLM, Hocmai, K12Online... contributing to forming proactive and flexible learning habits. In addition, the school also organizes technology experience lessons, instructing students to safely and effectively use digital tools; integrating programming activities, robots, digital product design... into appropriate curriculum", said Mr. Pham Van Tin.

In fact, to promote digital transformation in education, the education sector has focused on training and fostering human resources for many years. In particular, many schools have organized training for teachers on STEM/STEAM education methods and equipped them with knowledge and skills to design integrated learning activities ( science , technology, engineering, art, mathematics) into practical teaching. Teachers also participate in training courses on AI applications in education, learn how to use support tools (ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Canva...) to gradually improve the effectiveness of lesson preparation and personalize the learning process for students; participate in periodic internal seminars on information technology application skills, software use, building digital learning materials...

Ms. Le Thi Xuan Huong, Principal of Le Quy Don High School (Buon Ma Thuot Ward) affirmed that digital transformation in education and training is inevitable. To keep up with digital education, the school has organized training courses for staff, teachers, and employees to get acquainted with and effectively use popular AI tools (ChatGPT, Canva AI, Quizizz AI, Microsoft Copilot, ClassPoint AI...). At the same time, the school established an educational technology team with the specific task of guiding, supporting, and sharing experiences in applying AI; supporting teachers in preparing lectures, building creative and effective lectures... The process of applying AI aims to enhance personalization in educational activities; increase interaction between teachers and students; maximize the role of technology to improve the quality of comprehensive education in all grades.

Although applying digital transformation in education brings great efficiency and benefits, the process also faces many challenges when the technological infrastructure is not yet synchronized; rural and remote areas still have many difficulties and lack of facilities and equipment...

According to Mai Van Thanh, Principal of Tran Hung Dao High School (Yang Mao Commune), in order to effectively implement digital transformation, educational institutions need to invest in digital infrastructure (high-speed internet connection, computers, smart learning devices, etc.). Along with that, there is training and capacity building in using digital technology, applying AI in educational activities at school. Each teacher needs to proactively develop appropriate electronic lectures and learning videos; effectively exploit open learning resources to apply to each subject and group of students to improve teaching effectiveness, and provide personalized support methods for each group of students, etc.
