The incident happened on March 17 at a rock outcrop in the Paiya Mountain tourist area in Shenzhen city, Guangdong province, China.

According to the images in the shared video , the female tourist turned her back and held onto the rock with both hands, then made a rather dangerous L-shape. Meanwhile, a man took pictures of the female tourist.

However, due to not holding firmly onto the rock, the female tourist slipped and fell from a height of about 1 meter, causing panic among the people around her. Luckily, she was not injured or in any dangerous situation even though the place where she fell was full of jagged rocks.

The "death rock" where the incident occurred is located on Paiya Mountain, a place that attracts many tourists to check in every year. Located in Dapeng, Shenzhen City, Paiya is 707 m high, this is the 6th highest mountain in this city.

With rugged rocky terrain, some sections requiring visitors to use ropes to climb, Paiya is also known as a dangerous and challenging peak for amateur climbers.

However, the mountain top has a beautiful panoramic view of the sea, so this place is still chosen by many people to conquer. In particular, the turtle-shaped rock is always a favorite check-in spot for adventure enthusiasts.

Similar incidents have been reported in recent years. Local authorities have erected warning signs along the route leading to the cliff, broadcasted safety warnings, and deployed personnel to check. Checkpoints have also been set up at the entrance to the tourist area to ask visitors not to violate safety regulations.

It is known that many other destinations in China also have potential risks but many people still deliberately ignore them just to get a beautiful photo to post on social media. A cliff in Anyang, Henan , also has a rock protruding from the cliff that attracts many tourists to stand and take pictures. To prevent accidents, local authorities banned photography at this location in mid-April 2023.
