The Vietnamese team was awarded 8.81 points in the FIFA rankings after the March matches. Adding the points earned from the 2024 AFF Cup, the Vietnamese team is expected to increase by 5 places when FIFA officially updates in early April.

During this training session, coach Kim Sang-sik and his players played two matches, both against weak opponents at home. The Vietnamese team won both matches, including the match against Laos, which earned the reigning Southeast Asian champions 6.09 points.

Vietnam team increased 5 places on FIFA rankings.

Previously, when defeating Cambodia 2-1, Nguyen Hoang Duc and his teammates only received 2.72 points. The difference in the value of points between these two wins comes from the nature of the match. The Vietnam team's match against Cambodia was a friendly, while the match against Laos was in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.

Since the last FIFA rankings update, the Vietnamese team has earned 19.03 points. However, coach Kim Sang-sik's team is still far from the top 100. The current 100th team in the world is Trinidad and Tobago with 1,228.70 points. Meanwhile, the expected score of the Vietnamese team after the increase is 1,183.82.

In Southeast Asia, Thailand is still the only team in the top 100. The position of the Golden Temple team is 99th in the world. After a period of rapid progress, Indonesia has risen to 123rd place, ranking 3rd in the region (after Thailand and Vietnam). The current FIFA rankings do not have a significant impact on the Vietnamese team as well as opponents in the region because there are no major tournaments about to draw lots or classify seeds.

In the next training session (taking place in June), coach Kim Sang-sik and his team will continue to play 1 match in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. The Vietnamese team will face Malaysia away. In addition, the reigning AFF Cup champions are expected to play 1 more friendly match.
