On June 30, the City Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City held a ceremony to announce the Resolutions and Decisions of the Central and local governments on merging provincial and commune-level administrative units, ending the operation of district-level administrative units, establishing Party organizations, appointing Party committees, People's Councils, People's Committees, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees of Ho Chi Minh City, communes, wards, and special zones.
Attending the ceremony were comrades: General Secretary To Lam; Nguyen Minh Triet, former Politburo member, former President; Nguyen Van Nen, Politburo member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Nguyen Thien Nhan, former Politburo member, former Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.
Also attending the announcement ceremony were members of the Party Central Committee, former members of the Party Central Committee; leaders and former leaders of Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong province, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province; Secretaries of affiliated Party Committees and Secretaries of Party Committees of communes, wards, and special zones...
At the ceremony, comrade Nguyen Quang Duong, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Organization Committee, announced the resolutions and decisions of the Central Committee on merging provincial-level administrative units, establishing Party organizations, appointing Party Committees, People's Councils, People's Committees, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees of Ho Chi Minh City.
Accordingly, promulgating Resolution No. 202/2025/QH15 of the National Assembly on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units: arranging the entire natural area and population size of Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province and Binh Duong province into a new city called Ho Chi Minh City.
After the arrangement, Ho Chi Minh City has a natural area of 6,772.59 km2 , a population of more than 14 million people. Ho Chi Minh City borders the provinces of Dong Nai, Dong Thap, Lam Dong, Tay Ninh and the East Sea.
Resolution No. 1685/NQ-UBTVQH15 of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the arrangement of commune-level administrative units of Ho Chi Minh City in 2025. Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh City (new) has 168 wards, communes, and special zones.
Ho Chi Minh City and the whole country are entering historic moments, with strong changes. All resources are being aroused, the city continues to be a place of convergence and diffusion to welcome a new era - the era of rising up - the era of great aspirations.
The new vision for Ho Chi Minh City (new) is to become an “international megacity” - a smart, green, creative city, typical not only of economic strength but also of richness in culture, art, sports, entertainment and modern, dynamic lifestyle.
Ho Chi Minh City (new) will be a regional center of finance, services, trade, logistics, high-tech industry and sea tourism; with a development orientation based on digital technology, green economy, environmental sustainability, harmonious, connected, open society, crystallizing advanced values of Asia and the world; striving to be an attractive place, converging domestic and international talents and entrepreneurs, a place for the startup community, creativity, nurturing advanced trends and models.
Ho Chi Minh City (new) must not only be the national economic locomotive but also a modern city with influence in the global network of cities.
