According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health , for the first time in Vietnam, an AI-based cervical screening technique to detect and screen for cervical cancer has been deployed right at the commune health station. This is also the second AI application in community health care to be deployed in an island commune.

This is a new technique that helps screen for cervical cancer without having to perform the familiar Pap smear technique at obstetrics and gynecology clinics and hospitals. This technique is called CerviCare AI, performed by the TeleCervicography system.

CerviCare AI is trained on a large dataset of more than 100,000 cervical images, including both normal and abnormal images, and according to clinical trial results from the Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA), CerviCare AI can accurately detect early-stage cervical cancer with up to 98% accuracy.

Thanh An island commune health station is being prioritized for development resources.

AI-integrated colposcopy technology for cervical cancer screening was created by an innovative startup in Korea. Currently, in addition to Korea, some countries have begun to approve the use of this application in medical examination and treatment facilities (such as Japan, Taiwan, Thailand). Recently, Hung Vuong Hospital has approached this new technology and invested resources to deploy it.

According to the plan, doctors of Hung Vuong Hospital will examine and screen for cervical cancer for free for 152 women in Thanh An island commune. Immediately after cervical screening, the image will be analyzed by the AI system and results will be given. If the results are suspicious of pathology, people will be invited to Hung Vuong Hospital for further in-depth examination, additional diagnostic tests to determine the pathology, from which a specific intervention, treatment and monitoring plan will be made.

One year ago, also in Thanh An island commune, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health deployed AI application in chest X-ray, this application helped medical staff of the island commune's health station quickly detect lesions on X-ray films in the context of not being able to recruit specialized doctors in diagnostic imaging to work in the island commune.

Prioritizing resources for Thanh An island commune to deploy AI applications in community health care by the Health Sector is not beyond the goal of further narrowing the gap in access to health services for people in remote areas of the City.
