The ministerial conference in Djibouti has representatives from 14 African countries, including Angola, Chad, Comoros, Republic of Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Libya, Mauritania, Nigeria, South Sudan, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

In his role as chairman of the conference, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that trade between Ankara and Africa exceeded $35 billion last year, while Türkiye's total direct investment in the continent now stands at $7 billion.

“Turkey is taking a comprehensive approach in terms of strengthening our trade and economic partnership with the continent,” Mr. Fidan shared.

At the same time, the Turkish Foreign Minister reaffirmed his support for the African Union (AU) to become a permanent member of the Group of 20 (G20). In addition, Mr. Hakan Fidan also stressed the importance of reforming the United Nations Security Council to effectively deal with the complex challenges of the century.

On the other hand, Foreign Minister Fidan also called for greater African involvement in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He expressed his belief that Africa can play an important role in supporting the Palestinian people as well as pushing Israel to end its military activities in the Palestinian territories.

The next Türkiye-Africa Summit is scheduled to take place in 2026.

Türkiye has invested heavily in Africa in recent years. During his two decades in power, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has made 50 visits to 31 African countries.

Türkiye is currently the fourth largest arms supplier to sub-Saharan Africa and has supported the training of armed forces in many countries in the region.

Recently, the country has attempted to mediate in the conflict between Ethiopia and Somalia, as well as signed a mining deal with Niger.
