Hamas leader assassinated, 'the ceasefire negotiation process in the Gaza Strip is not only deadlocked, but is actually clinically dead'

The US website Axios reported that negotiations on a hostage exchange and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, which took place in the Egyptian capital Cairo on August 3, failed to make a breakthrough and fell into a deadlock.

Earlier in the day, Axios reported that a high-level Israeli delegation had arrived in Cairo to discuss with Egyptian special services issues related to the Gaza ceasefire and hostage exchange with the Hamas Islamic Movement.

On the social network X, journalist Barak Ravid, who specializes in following the political field of this site, wrote: "Two Israeli officials told me that the negotiations that the Israeli delegation participated in Cairo on August 3 did not achieve a breakthrough, emphasizing that the negotiation process is stalled, and a ceasefire and hostage exchange agreement may still be very far away."

Spanish news agency EFE on August 2 (local time) quoted sources from Egyptian security agencies confirming that contacts between Egyptian and Qatari mediators with Israel to reach a ceasefire in Gaza have been completely suspended following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

Also on August 2, The National News of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) cited regional sources as saying that the ceasefire negotiations in the Gaza Strip had reached a dead end after the assassination of Mr. Haniyeh.

Haniyeh, who played a key role in the ceasefire negotiations, has been in active contact with mediators Egypt and Qatar. The assassination of the Hamas leader threatens to derail efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza.
