(Bqp.vn) - On the morning of April 9, at the Ministry of National Defense Headquarters, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of National Defense , received and worked with Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Vietnam Karl Van Den Bossche.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien stated that Vietnam is a country heavily affected by wars, overcoming the consequences of war is an issue that Vietnam is very concerned about and wishes to promote international cooperation. Recently, cooperation between Vietnam and the Kingdom of Belgium in the field of overcoming the consequences of Agent Orange/dioxin has achieved remarkable results.

At the meeting, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien and Ambassador Karl Van Den Bossche discussed the possibility of cooperation in dioxin treatment in contaminated areas of Vietnam, including Phu Cat airport (Binh Dinh). Assessing that Vietnam and the Kingdom of Belgium still have much potential for cooperation in various fields, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien hopes that the two sides will pay more attention to defense cooperation in areas such as navy, military medicine, participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations, etc.

For his part, Ambassador Karl Van Den Bossche assessed that the relationship between the two countries has developed strongly in recent times, and expressed his agreement with Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien's views on areas of cooperation that both sides should pay attention to. Ambassador Karl Van Den Bossche also emphasized that the Belgian House of Representatives' adoption of a resolution calling for support for Vietnamese Agent Orange victims in October 2023 has contributed to promoting the international community's attention and calling on countries to support Vietnamese Agent Orange victims.

Expressing his respect and appreciation for the Belgian House of Representatives being the first parliament in the world to pass a resolution on Agent Orange victims, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien affirmed that this is an important and meaningful resolution for Vietnam.
