Switzerland strengthens its network of relations in the Asia-Pacific region

India is the first destination in a tour of several Asian countries by Federal Councilor and Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis.

Mr. Ignazio Cassis's last visit to India took place in 2018 on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, one of the main highlights of Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis’ visit to New Delhi on February 5 will be a meeting with his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar. The two sides are expected to discuss “progress in economic relations” as well as “cooperation in education, research and innovation”.

Earlier, the Swiss Federal Council issued a press release stating that “the talks with this founding member of the BRICS+ group will also address important international issues at the moment, in particular possible peaceful solutions in Ukraine.”

After India, Foreign Minister Cassis will travel to China, South Korea and the Philippines.

“Asian economies have regained significant momentum over the past two years,” the statement said, adding that the focus of the four-day trip will be “strengthening Switzerland’s network of relationships in the Asia-Pacific region. Peace in Ukraine will also be on the agenda.”
