According to the owner of X, a small monthly fee is the only solution to deal with the large number of bots on the platform. However, he did not share how much it would cost or any specific plans.

“Every time a bot creator wants to use the platform, they have to choose and use a new payment method. That’s the only way I can think of to fight the massive robot army,” Musk said. “Because a bot costs just a few cents, even if it costs a few dollars or something, the cost effectiveness of the bot is still very high.”
Social media bots are computer programs that can perform tasks such as posting, liking, or following accounts without human intervention. They can often lead to the spread of fake news, spam, and manipulation of trends or engagement metrics. They can also reduce the authenticity of online interactions and potentially mislead users.
X’s move to a paid platform isn’t exactly a shock, especially given its recent changes. Most of its recent updates have focused on paid subscribers, offering features like 25,000-character tweets, video downloads, and job listings. Meanwhile, free users are facing increasing restrictions, like limits on the number of tweets or posts they can view per day.
Currently, the platform boasts around 550 million monthly users. While a small monthly fee could help combat bots, making X a paid service could see that number drop as it appears that not many users are willing to sign up. According to an independent analysis, only 827,615 users are currently willing to pay for X Premium, so convincing people to continue using it if they have to pay could be a challenge.
