“Dark Nuns” is the latest movie of Song Hye Kyo and Jeon Yeo Bin. The film was released on January 24 in Korea and quickly topped the domestic box office for 3 days (from January 24-26).

However, the number of audiences in theaters decreased significantly later. The main reason came from the controversy over the script and dialogue, despite the fact that Sister Junia was Song Hye Kyo's breakthrough role in terms of image.

Although it received mixed reviews in its home country and has only broken even at 1.6 million tickets, the film has received a lot of love from audiences when it was released in the Southeast Asian market.

According to distributor New, the film has topped the box office in the Philippines for two consecutive weeks.

In Indonesia, “Dark Nuns” achieved the highest opening ever for a Korean film and quickly surpassed the 1 million admission mark. The film is now scheduled for release in Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam.

Meanwhile, the romantic film remake of the famous Taiwanese (Chinese) work “You Are the Apple of My Eye” (2011) is also increasing its promotion in the Southeast Asian market, especially in Indonesia.

Previously, the two main actors Dahyun (TWICE) and Jung Jinyoung (B1A4) had a chat with the media and fans in Jakarta and received positive feedback.

Meanwhile, another Korean film, “Nocturnal,” starring Ha Jung Woo and Kim Nam Gil, was released in Thailand on February 6 and is scheduled to be released in Singapore and Malaysia on February 27 and in the Philippines on March 26.

According to Korean newspapers, hallyu (Korean wave) still has a great influence in the Southeast Asian market. This is also the reason why many dramas Korean movies Aiming to issue in this market to soon reach break-even point and increase revenue.

“To make a profit, in addition to the domestic market, high-budget films must target the foreign market, and when considering many factors, Southeast Asia is an indispensable market. There are also many countries here that have remade famous Korean films,” the Korean newspaper quoted.

Meanwhile, Sorasitch Leelanukij - content creator for The Standard news agency (headquartered in Thailand) said that the popularity of Korean stars is one of the reasons why the works are noticed here.

For example, with Song Hye Kyo - the actress loved by Thai fans after the success of the revenge series - "The Glory".

“In Southeast Asia, the hallyu phenomenon has been growing for decades from dramas, movies to K-pop. The fact that Korean content continues to attract a large audience shows that audiences are always eager to enjoy quality content,” said Sorasitch Leelanukij.
