On August 7, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health called on people to donate blood to ensure a safe and continuous blood supply for treatment during the period of restructuring the health system. Currently, the number of donations has decreased, affecting the ability to reserve and supply blood to medical facilities for emergency and patient treatment.

According to reports from blood receiving units, in July 2025, Ho Chi Minh City planned to receive 27,560 blood bags, but in reality, only 25,034 bags were collected, 2,526 bags short of the plan. Meanwhile, the amount of blood distributed was up to 27,607 bags, leading to a sharp decrease in blood reserves, from 9,427 bags (July 1) to 6,713 bags (July 31).

Ho Chi Minh City Blood Transfusion and Hematology Hospital warned that if blood donation campaigns are not increased in August and the following months, the blood supply will only meet about 70 - 80% of treatment needs, directly affecting professional activities at hospitals and medical centers with beds in the area.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has requested the Blood Transfusion - Hematology Hospital to proactively develop a support plan and closely coordinate with the Cho Ray Hospital Blood Transfusion Center when necessary, to ensure timely blood supply for emergency and treatment work throughout the city.

At the same time, the Department requested the People's Committees of wards, communes and special zones to quickly establish a Steering Committee for voluntary blood donation at the grassroots level; strengthen coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Red Cross Society in communication work, mobilizing people to participate in blood donation, contributing to supplementing blood reserves until the end of 2025.

Cho Ray Hospital Blood Transfusion Center continues to play the role of a focal point for supplying blood and blood products to medical facilities in regions 2 and 3 (including the old Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau areas) until December 31, 2025.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also requested localities to step up blood donation mobilization, strengthen local steering committees, and coordinate with the Ho Chi Minh City Blood Donation Center to maintain a stable blood collection schedule, contributing to maintaining the blood supply for treatment at this important time.
